NCFE CACHE LEVEL 5 DIPLOMA IN LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
This qualification is designed to support the development of registered managers of adult social care services. The qualification provides learners with the knowledge and skills needed to work in adult social care and to have responsibility for leading and managing a service. This will include managing and improving care and support for those accessing the service, supporting and developing the workforce, and driving the vision for their service or organisation.
Developed with and supported by Skills for Care, this qualification has been designed to meet the requirements for the new apprenticeship standard for Leader in Adult Care.

- communication, relationships and partnership working
- person-centred practice for positive outcomes

Frequently Asked Questions
This qualification is most suitable for those working in a managerial role in adult care settings
who are looking to progress their career. It is also appropriate for managers who have not yet achieved a vocational qualification at level 5.
There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification but learners will need to be at least
19 years of age. It is also recommended that they hold a level 3 qualification or above in a related area.
Learners must achieve 80 credits from the 20 mandatory units and a minimum of 15 credits from the optional units to achieve a minimum of 95 credits in total.
All units are internally assessed by the centre. Methods used could include:
• interpretation of knowledge from direct observation of practice in the workplace
• witness evidence
• professional discussion
• reflection on own practice in real work situations
• written assignments
• learner’s own plans and written records
• learner log or reflective diary
• observation
• portfolio of evidence
• scenario or case study
• oral questioning
Grading of all units will be achieved or not yet achieved.
The qualification can usually be completed within 18 to 24 months.
Learners will need to be working in the role of deputy manager or manager in an appropriate
setting, or have the opportunity to carry out responsibilities associated with these roles.
Learners can progress to a degree in a related discipline.
On completion, learners can progress to a wide range of job roles. The following list is not all-
inclusive but gives an idea of the opportunities available in adult care settings:
